We were delighted to host our Turkish, Greek and Czech Republic partners in the Centre for the first transnational visit of our new Grundtvig Learning Partnership.  Learners participated in creative arts workshops on cultural traditions which are celebrated in Northern Ireland and staff took part in project meetings. 

Tanya Hughes, Anne Walker, Sharon Skillen (Castlereagh Borough Councillor) and Catherine Cooke (Coordinator of Foyle Women's Information Network) attended this conference in Tallinn, Estonia.  13 countries shared good practices in relation to actions to promote more women in politics.

Councillor David Drysdale, Mayor of Castlereagh, visited the Centre today along with Councillor Sharon Skillen.  He met with staff and had a tour of the Centre's facilities.

Women from the Centre attended workshops and performed 'Martha' a short play which they had written.  Attendance at the Summer School was funded through Lisburn-Castlereagh Peace 3 Partnership.

 

Staff and 3 learners from the Centre attended the final seminar of the Grundtvig Learning Partnership: SOPHIE - Developing women's skills for the future labour market.  The meeting was held in Rzeszow on Thursday 31st May 2013.  Each partner organisation gave a presentation on the activities, results and dissemination activties of the project within their own respective country.  Partners also discussed in detail the final report which will be submitted by the end of September.

Gregory Burton, the United States Consul General and Gabrielle Moseley. Deputy, visited the Centre today.  They had a tour around the Centre and Pre School.  They also met with staff, women and children who use the Centre.

Staff and women from the Centre took part in a transnational visit to Gijon in Spain as part of the Grundtvig Learning Partnership: SOPHIE - Developing women's skills for the future labour market..  They took part in ICT workshops, project meetings, cultural visits and activities.

Tanya Hughes, Director of Ballybeen Women's Centre, and Anne Walker were invited by the Worldwide Ireland Funds to hear Hilary Clinton's speech on recieving a Lifetime Achievement Award for her services to Northern Ireland.  The event took place in the Titanic Suite in Titanic Belfast on Friday 7th December 2012.

 

Staff and users from the Centre attended a Hanna's House Conference on the issue of UNSCR 1325: Women Delivering Peace and Security on Monday 5th November 2012.  They participated in table discussions on the following subjects: Participation and Representation; Conflict Prevention and Peace Building; Security and Prevention; Human/Sex Trafficking; Relief and Recovery; Monitoring and Evaluation of the implementaion of UNSCR 1325.

Participation at the Conference was supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Amanda Marshall, Education and Training Co-ordinator, visited Kas Public Education Centre in Turkey for a EU Preparatory Visit which was funded through ECORYS - the UK National Agency.  She met with the Director, Mustafa Ozturk and Education Principal, Engin Yigit to discuss a Grundtvig Learning Partnership which will be submitted to National Agencies early next year.
