Rhythms of the Year - Grundtvig Learning Partnership 2013

Rhythms of the Year

The aim of this partnership will be to examine inter-cultural identity with partner countries that promote learning and skills development for people living in areas of disadvantage through the use of a creative skills based peer learning model.
Europe is rich in cultural traditions and customs associated with the passing of the seasons which manifest themselves in each country during national holidays, religious festivals, celebrations and feasts. These traditions and customs take various forms for example: music, making creative objects, preparing and eating culinary dishes, wearing particular costumes etc. This partnership will promote understanding, tolerance and respect by examining the historical significance of customs and traditions within each country.  Rhythms of the Year will reawaken interest in the rich and varied customs associated with the passing of seasons within partner countries.

Project Objectives
1. To provide and engage disadvantaged learners from EU countries in lifelong learning.
2. To promote intercultural dialogue between partner organisations and participants through examining the different traditions and customs partner countries use to celebrate different times of the year.
2. To share and increase skills between participants in partner countries including new creative skills and knowledge.
3. To increase awareness amongst participants of different cultural and social practices within partner countries.
4. To record these traditions and customs using digital media.
5. To enhance self-esteem amongst participants.
6. To emphasise the importance of the knowledge  and experience gained by participants and the part they can play in the preservation and transmission of those skills.
6. To provide participants with opportunities to broaden their experience of European cultures, often for the first time and to share their knowledge with others
